Joining the East River northbound, crossing the BQE (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway). 1000' climbing to 1500' at the river.

LaGuardia tower had me join at the Williamsburg Bridge instead of the Brooklyn Bridge, due to the NYPD and multiple news helicopters on station over there. They were covering the ferry accident at the South St. Seaport.

Just before JFK handed me off to LGA, he informed me that there was an "incident" over at the So. St. seaport:D

Love the glider shot! I've been thinking about taking a glider flight in the spring or summer, I think that picture sealed the deal:)

You'll love it!

On this flight I soared up right to the clouds but was forced to bring her back early because someone behind me had scheduled her. So I ended up going from 4000 feet to 0 feet in about 10 minutes. Which had I been flying normally wouldve taken me about 30 minutes to burn. Instead I had to do a spiral with the airbrakes out. :D

Wow, sounds like fun!
I'm looking forward to it.

I'm pretty sure that's smog. ;)

Yes but when I departed Republic Airport on Long Island (KFRG), 30nm east, the ATIS reported 5sm, haze. Temp 6, dewpoint 1. By the time I got over Manhattan, I guess Haze=Smoke+Fog:rofl:.

That sent me researching on the internet. Isn't smog actually thicker than haze? I thought the visibility was lower in smog:dunno:

Breezy Point, Queens NY.
Couldn't see much of the damage from Hurricane Sandy. Things move by fast at 500 feet:D

Sunset shot from over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge I pulled from the GoPro. I had just gotten checked out in the Sky Arrow so I took a quick spin around the pattern to see how it handled without the instructor on board...but mainly to see the sunset. I'm on downwind for 11 at W29, so the Eastern Shore is behind me. Video here. It was shot January 5.

This is from my Discovery flight that I took back in October. My girlfriend riding in the back took the picture. We're heading NW into the Woodland Park area from KCOS. We circled Pikes Peak and returned.

The "Forward Wing" is NOT a canard:no:. This is a "three lifting surface" configuration.

Taken Friday afternoon getting some windy landing practice in.

The first photo captures 4 rivers in CT (from bottom to top): Pawcatuck River, Thames River (you can see Mohegan Sun Casino glisten under the prop on the right), then the smaller East Lyme river, and then the Connecticut River.

The other two are just area shots, both looking north east at Rhode Island. All photos taken from 6500ft.

The 1st photo looks like you're headed towards KGON, correct? I've landed there exactly 3 times. Nice airport and I love the view on approach...then again, I say that about all airports:D.

Correction: Looks like I can see the Long Island Sound to the left, which would mean you're headed away from KGON, if that's the prop on the right.

That's actually one of my favorite places to fly, great airport. Especially when they let me land on rwy 23/5.

I'm not sure where you're seeing Long Island (I don't see it), but you were correct the first time. I had taken off from WST headed northwest, so the photo is looking due west down the coast. KGON is just out of the photo on the left side in between the first two rivers.

I too love to land at GON, and did quite a bit while training. WST is nice, it's near the beaches and Watch Hill. If you do visit, go to the south side of the airport, Dooney Aviation (accessed from taxiway Foxtrot). No landing fee and cheaper fuel.

I love flying along the Conn. coast from FRG.

BDR-HVN-GON... Of the three, I visit BDR the most. I haven't been to WST yet.

I've been to HWV, and one of these days I'll get to FRG, maybe ISP if I feel up for it. This area is such a great area to fly in...the views are always good. :)

Oh ok, but I could sware I see the coast and a large body of water to the upper far left of the pic:dunno:

Thanks for the info on WST. I'll have to visit one day!

Indeed! I got my Tailwheel training at HWV last summer, love that field. Landed at ISP a few times too.

I've landed at KGON five times and it's definitely the most beautiful approach I've ever flown.

Yes!!!

I'm just learning the area as of 2011. Studying google maps just now, I see it's actually in Fisher's Island Sound, not the Long Island Sound. I stand corrected:)
