Since all of the following is True, there is no risk of libel.

I reserved a car at Signature PWK for Thanksgiving day, 2012, no VISA required. I never made it as my transponder failed. So we drove to Thanksgiving dinner. Last week I get a collection call, not even identifying the company nor the creditor.

Turns out a guy named NATE at Signature PWK decided, Monday after Thanksgiving, that I had taken the rental, and not signed a contract. Without any info. they put me into collection. THANK YOU, Nate.....not.

I finally tracked this down and the desk clerks at Signature realized my tail # had never arrived. A Mr. Tom Bez at Enterprise regional apologized for the inconvenience but never admitted sloppy business. They never asked the desk, never checked mileage (no change), or fuel. They just sent me into collection. They got the information from the Signature, computer, however, on my Signature account.

Well after much effort, I got a fax from Enterprise that says, well it's attached.

So now 2 full business days after that, I finally got an acknolwedgement from the collection agency (Caine & Weiner). That is after many many phone calls unanswered to the agency, and now a call to Mr. Bez, requesting that he call his credit bureau and get them to freaking "CALL ME BACK".

I advise all airmen to just not go near Enterprise of N. Illinois. This was a lot of energy for $63.00 and the upshot is, "Call Signature...get put into collection". I'm looking askance at Signature, too. It'll be a long time before I go there again. UGN for me.

Sigh. They may talk the talk, but there is no service culture there. When I mess up, it's "I will make every attempt to make this right and keep you apprised of my efforts and progress". NOT this organization, however.....

My only question is if you cancelled, or otherwise called as a courtesy to Enterprise or Signature as a result of your change in plans? It may not be required, but I'd be less angry if I made a good faith effort, even if only a recorded message about the change.

Message only, but message nonetheless (to Signature), though it was Thanksgiving day and somebody didn't give a c_ap.

What a business model! Call, do nothing else, and get put into collection.
I can understand Garmin's not detecting my transponder problem (they had it sent to them in Septemer and unbenounced to me they sent it back, upgraded, but not fixed).

It's worse than what you pay for you don't get. You don't even have to "get" and you get collected upon...

Bingo, that's good enough. They could have re-rented the car, or they could have advised Enterprise.

I had an issue with the 'we try harder' folks in HOU last year in a similar situation. The rate I signed for(and had the receipt in hand) was about half of what they charged my CC. It took months and several scans and emails to get the refund. I've since learned that if you go through the FBO, there's about a 80% chance of some kind of screw up that will cost the customer extra.

I've had a problem with Enterprise in more than one location.

Seems I have a National Rental Car profile that contains both my personal credit card (primary) and corporate card (secondary). We ARE allowed to use corporate rates on both National and Enterprise rentals for personal business, but we are NOT allowed to use the corporate cards for personal use. Enterprise and National are both owned by the same company.

You see where this is going.

When I make a reservation through the Enterprise site (or an FBO makes a reservation for me), it pulls the information from the National profile but changes the credit card to the secondary/corporate card. There is no issue when I book a car with National - it pulls the personal/primary card & works just fine. If I pick up the car myself from an Enterprise location, I can get it corrected. If I pick up from an FBO, even if I write on the paperwork and provide a copy of the credit card, 8 out of 10 times it'll get charged to the corporate card. And getting it credited/re-charged to the personal card is almost always a hassle (though I've always gotten it fixed).

I've taken to not only reserving online, but also calling Enterprise. There's something not quite right with their computer system....

Dr. Bruce

I would have, at enterprise's expense, all of your credit bureau files pulled for the next year, to make sure this does not appear on your credit rating. Also, I would get a letter from them admitting it was inappropriate to send you to collections. Years ago, my wife sent in a check to pay our mortagage. Instead of writing the check for the mortgage amount, she wrote it for the balance left in the account. Because it was less than what the mortgage due was the company did not cash the check. We found out about it a few weeks later, when I got a letter from the mortgage company saying we were late in our payment and threatening foreclosure. Found out what happened, sent a new check in and thought everything was fine. Also, for some reason, I asked them to send me a letter explaining the situation and that I had not really been late on the account. The mortgage company said do not worry, as they were not going to report it to any one, but sent me the letter anyhow. Fast foward 5 years, I am buying a new house and my real estate broker tell me we have a problem with getting a mortgage, because 5 years earlier I was late in paying my mortgage. Pulled out the old letter and everything was fine. You just never know when something like this can bite you back.

I had contemplated putting the Enterprise sales executive into collections by mistake....oh, a mistake, no harm, no foul! We'll correct it.....when we get to it...."Oh, in the correspondence you must have ended up in my clinical files....so sorry...."

But that would make me scummy. Can't do that.

Either way, you'll (hopefully) find KUGN a great airport. Everyone at Landmark has been great to my family and me so far. Unlike Palwaukee, they seem to actually like piston traffic here. =D

Sometimes a written letter that says:

"I invoke and retain all rights under the Fair Credit Billing and Collections Act. I deny that I owe you or your principal anything. Please send me proof of your claim in writing in accordance with the law. Do not call me at work. Do not call me at home until you have provided me with the appropriate documentation of your claim."

Certified mail. Return Receipt or Priority Mail . . .

I hate this crap too but sometimes you can't fix something in the time frame that you think it can be fixed. . . and the law is designed to be dealt with by mail, not by phone, fax, or email . . .

Collection agencies are the scum of the earth. I had a run-in with one 15 years ago (and a re-run 7 years ago) after my identity and credit card number were stolen by the front desk clerk at a NYC hotel. The thiefs ran up over $50,000, including an account with (what is now) Verizon that I didn't know about. 7 years after "resolving" the claim as fraud with collection agency #1, they sold the debt to collection agency #1 who marked it as "unpaid/collectable".

I ended up sending the documentation from agency #1 where they acknowledged it was fraud to agency #2, and I copied the State's Attorney office in the state where Agency #2 was located, along with the FTC. Agency #2 backed off after getting a copy of the letter to the State's Attorney. They claimed "computer error"....

Yeah, you can never ever respond to the collection idiots with anything other than "I don't owe you anything."

I've had the idjits come after me because I'm my mothers son and she died and did not pay the bill and 'its customary for the surviving heirs to pay the bill."

I then say, "excuse me, did you just say that its customary for heirs to pay the bills of other people who have died?" After I flip in the recorder on the phone . . .

They generally say yes, and I thank them, get their contact information to 'send a potential payment' and the next communication is a lawsuit.

I used to make anywhere from $10-15k a year in fees from these companies - used my paralegal to manage the case like the other 30 or 40 we had going at any given time. . .

I've also had them threaten my credit report for someone elses debt at a new phone number - its rather amusing.

It all stopped about 3 years ago - I think after I got a lawyer suspended in South Dakota for his collection practices somewhere there is a database with my numbers in it on a super do not call list for creditors . . .

It don't pay to be a nice guy when being "scummy" would be be soooo sweet in the revenge catagory...

Wasn't there a thread a while back where a rental car company tried to shake down a pilot with the claim of damage ??...

Don't even get me started on a false medical bill I was charged for a few months back.... I fought it and actually made Cheyenne Reginal Medical Center refund Blue Cross of Wyoming the fraudulant charges they scammed them out of... after they send me to collections without even notifying me ....

I hope I never need medical help in Cheyenne as they HATE me ..:)

I flew into Tamiami a few years back and got a rental from the Falcon Trust FBO. Enterprise by the way. I had the car 23 hrs, I basically took it from the fbo because I arrive too late to get it from the branch across the street for $200 less. So I returned the car as agreed. Rented the weekly rental for the rest of my 2 week trip. Month later I get my visa and they billed me for a week. I called and they "oh we are sorry we had not idea you turned it back in."

I believe that they purposely do this because many let them get away with it either because a travel department or acct department pays the bills and doesn't question them or something. It is no accident.

Bruce:

I am surprised that you actually got that letter, I'd insist that the agency or Enterprise confirm that no report was made to the credit reporting agencys. Beyond that not much else to do. Sorry you had to expereince that. I know that feeling of " Do I really need to deal with this crud"

You gotta watch out for those guys named Nate. They're always a pain in the butt. ;) ;) ;)

And on a lighter note: I've had an iPhone 4 for about four days. Today when I was taking calls I had several in which I realized if I held the edges of the phone at any time in the call, despite 4 bars, he couldn't hear me and I couldn't hear him.

So this evening I went to best buy and the guy says, "oh yeah, I remember that some iphone4s had trouble with that. So I came home with an iphone 5. They were closing, so I put it in the bag and came home. I got home, and was puttng my email accounts on it, and I discover the "home screen" button doesn't work. It's crippling. Newest IOS, 6.0.2, as well.

So I go to apple.com and they try to call the phone. Well I can't get off of the email screen without rebooting it. They're trying 3 times and I'm never on the home screen in time to pick up the call.

The number the call is made from, is of course closed at 5PM.

WTH is wrong with America? NOTHING appears to work! I mean, an iPhone 5 is only - $699!!! WTH? Back to Best Buy during business hours to tear some poor kid's head off. My entire business is done on the phone!

I really do believe I am turing into one of those two old muppets in the balcony. I ACTUALLY expect things to work. How UNREASONABLE of me.

OK, I gotta speak up. Now, I know you're an MD and all that, yeah the human body is complex, many systems, lots of wiring and plumbing blah-blah.

As an engineer, I would like you to contemplate all the various systems involved in the 5 ounces of phone in your hand. Do you remember when you needed a shoulder mounted 9 pound unit to make a video, and the quality of that was marginal? Do you remember the first calculators that weighed almost a pound, cost $400 (when that was real money), and would do mantissa calculations? How about land phones? Maybe a computer that could do multi-processing?

Your little handset can do all this and more. It works for millions of people around the globe, it makes and takes calls, holds thousands of photos, videos, patient records, addresses, forms, documents, etc. The screen is made from something called gorilla glass, and it's hard as nails, transparent, and yet is sensitive to your touch.

Engineers made this stuff. We connect you instantly(most of the time) to your office, wife, kids. We let you run a business while you are on the move. We let you do a million things that used to have to sit behind a desk for and once in a while, some things don't go exactly as planned.

Nothing is perfect. That includes doctors that mis-diagnosed my gall bladder problem for 4 days, and set my son's elbow wrong, requiring it to be redone at some pain. Your PDA is going to be fixed. It'll work as advertised most of the time, and I'm no fanboy of Apple, but it doesn't pain me to say they make a pretty darn good product overall. If it was such a failure, we wouldn't see people around the world trying to steal thousands of them, and they would be off the market pretty fast. Failure doesn't succeed in consumer business, and Apple is no kind of failure.

You're welcome.

"Hey Waldorf, get a load of the frog!" :yikes:
I WAS trying to be a bit humorous....the price of failure is pretty high, I guess. :(

...and this WAS significantly less bad than calling Signature for a rental reservation, and then getting put into collectgions.....so now I'll take my whining and go home....

No prob Doc. We all have the tech-gadget blues sometimes. It gets me that most people have no concept of the complexity involved in their phone. The link is to an Intel chip that has 2.9 billion junctions on it. The physics, electronics, architecture, chemistry, and photo-lithography to produce these circuits is nothing short of amazing.

A few centuries ago, I used to make the machines and processes to build these circuits. The integration of functions to make a few chips for a phone is fantastic. Not to mention al the supporting network systems that integrate. I get a bit touchy when people take things for granted like this.

Give the kid a break. Its not his fault your friggin phone does not work. Remember he is probably making minimum wage, and your tearing his head off is not going to get you a new phone any faster.

Usually I agree somewhat with your rants, but taking it out on some poor kid is not right.

As I posted on the Red Board, Enterprise is full of sloppy and in many cases outright fraudulent activities and it's not limited to Illinois.

I have both in Beverly, MA and at Washington National had them mysteriously tack extra days on to the submitted credit card bills. Now admittedly they did remove them on my protest, but I suspect they do this unchecked alot because their major business is insurance and repair loaners where the consumer who had the car isn't the one who sees the bills and they get away with this padding of the bill.

Contrast this with the Avis rent-a-car I had at Norwood on a daily rental that I had to keep extending day by day because I was weahtered in there. They noted that when I finally returned the car, that the weekly rate was cheaper and reduced my bill to match.

Welcome to the club. I expect things I buy to work as advertised, as well. And I don't accept the "it's a complicated device" as an excuse. Those bugs should have been taken care of before it hit the market. And, yes, I do work for a company that makes more complicated devices than the silicon in that iPhone. When we have a problem, we fix it.

Oh, and I'm not a fan of inconvenient hours for customer service, either. Serve the customer when the customer is available, not when it is convenient for you.

Yeah, I'm one of those old guys in the balcony, too. :D

C'mon Ghery, your company has had some big-time screwups in the past too...

And today I get my statement from the loyalty program at National. My last Enterprise rental did not show as being credited.

Email has been sent.

Try going to an Apple store. Much better service than Best Buy.

I've been in the software business a long time. A recently acquired software product seemed to keep failing on us, and though my team was the primary beneficiaries of the tool, its failures appeared immediately upon everyone elses terminal. When the error was reported to the company, we got "That will be fixed in the next release.". This was their solution to each and every problem we had. And we weren't stressing it at all, just our normal business. We got to thinking we were their ALPHA test site.
An occasional problem is one thing but a new out of the box device that hangs on a basic user function is completely unacceptable. And that it can do it repeatedly means it wasn't tested satisfactorily to begin with.
As far as engineering goes, it amazes me that someone has actually designed this stuff. What must their heads be like? And the more complex the item, the more amazed I am.

Since all of the following is True, there is no risk of libel....SNIP...
I have rented from Enterprise in Scotland for 6 years and not had a problem dealing with their agents or any BIG issues with the bill. I ALWAYS use my AMEX card with the premium rental insurance, and wave the CD. Any issues, I let AMEX deal with them.
No worries.

:rofl::rofl: Welcome to my life Bruce... Even worse, I expect people to do their jobs, correctly:eek: and get this, I actually expect them to... THINK:yikes: I've got contractors I'm calling in to get THEIR systems working, they drive 5 hours to get to location, and get this... they don't bring all the parts...:mad2: WTF over? Don't they put the assembly together at the office before they set out on the road and check they have a working assembly?

Am I wrong when I get annoyed over these things?:dunno:

I didn't. I was pretty polite. The kid exchanged the phone. Only had about five hours invested. sigh.

Kent remember I live in Peoria, IL. the neares Apple store is on N. Michigan Avenue, next to Water Tower place. That's 3 hours in a car each way.

that is apple for you. If it were Windows at least it would work after you rebooted it a few times.

Uggg, I'll tell you what, after using a droid for a few years after having an iPhone and being given an iPhone for work again, I remember all the reasons I gave up the iPhone.

Well, they've gotten a little closer to you - Naperville. :(

Read my last sentence. When a problem comes up (and they do), we fix it.

True, but a couple sentences earlier you were saying "Those bugs should have been taken care of before it hit the market." My point was, some of the mistakes at your company have hit the market, too...

FWIW, what they did to fix the iPhone 4 antenna/hand issues in the iPhone 4s was to allow the two antennas (one on either side of the case edge) to dynamically switch - The iPhone 4 used one side as a cell antenna and the other for WiFi/Bluetooth. The 4s can use both antennas for any of the above, and automatically chooses the one with better signal at any given moment.

I am sure the kid appreciated it. I buy my phones on line now. Never had a problem, but then again I do not use apple. One of these days apple is going to send out a signal and all the apple I-phone users are going to become Zombies.

I had an Iphone 4. I live in a rural area. Lots of dropped calls. I bought a $20 TracPhone at Walmart. Yet to have a dropped call in the 5 months that I have had it. Plus an extra $90 or so in my pocket every month. I am not a big cell user so I don't miss the Iphone at all.
