OH BOY!!! My chance at last...

Where's that person who wants to be an airline pilot?!
Well, there are still many out there who do.....but I would propose that anyone who would WANT to fly for AMR could not hold a 1st class medical....they would need to have thier head examined for an SI.

I know a few guys who fly (or flew) for American.....most caustic, miserable and unhappy place in the 121 world and it has been that way for several years.

It will be interesting to see how this hiring thing is going to work. They say they want to hire 2500......how many do they still have on furlough? They have folks that have been on the street since 2001!

Sadly......the best thing that could happen in the industry would be for Doug Parker to buy AMR....and then the whole East vs West vs American cheese ball can implode. DAL and UAL can pick up the pieces.

Too bad I can't get hired for the next 5 years.
Not to worry, David. If the airlines are what you want to do, you are in a perfect spot.....just keep building the time now. 5 years should line you up quite nicely with the projected retirements at Delta and several other majors.

I suspect that AMR is running into the retirement issue earlier than the others because they haven't hired ANY new blood in 11 years.

Why anyone would want to go to the airlines is beyond me... They are nothing like they used to be.

Most of the furloughed aren't coming back as they have already moved on.. The AA pilots voting down the TA is a bet that a merge will occur..

This news really surprised me. We all the trouble they are in, I think hiring should be the last thing on their minds. Maybe this is just hype to help them attract new money.

I have a friend that flies there too, and he's a great guy with a really laid back attitude and you can tell he essentially hates his job - it's too bad.

I think they have like 500 out on furlough, and you're right they probably aren't coming back.

Once a culture goes sour like that, it can take a long time to turn it around...

If they dump a bunch of legacy pilots and get some new hires the wage difference might make a nice bonus package for the CEO before they finally go under......or am I just cynical??? :dunno:
