Commercial Spaceflight and Aviation Trust Fund

Not about subsidies. There is an element in government that wants Spacex to reimburse the FAA for all the extra work they do to support a space flight. The same logic can be applied to GA.

Commercial Spaceflight and Aviation Trust Fund

Listened to this on NPR today: https://www.npr.org/2024/04/29/1197964063/taxing-the-final-frontier The gist is there is a movement from the people with their hands in our pockets to shove them into Spacex’s pockets, among others. It sounds plausible on the face of it but I wonder if it would...

    The death of an insitution

We have lost a lot. Men used to care and inculcate values. I feel like a refugee from Atlantis trying to explain how it used to be. It was good.

OMG don’t get me started! Lots of tent hopping in the Explorers. Good times.

    The death of an insitution

I guess nothing lasts forever and don’t want to sound like a grumpy old man, but am not sure opening Boy Scouts to girls was the right thing to do. 11-14 is a crazy time for young people; body changes, middle school. A single-sex environment,a place where you can grow and not worry about trying...

    Why haven't you been to a POA fly-in ?

To the OP’s original question, POA’s motto is ‘Criticizing other Pilots Since Daedalus and Icarus’. Been on the receiving end of a lot of vituperative attacks; no desire to meet anyone. It is a good resource for figuring out if you need a 1/8th or 2 mm diameter brake caliper O-ring for a 1967...

    Customer service rant

Oh, thanks! Was reading in the Washington Post yesterday that the US’s @replacement rate@, number of children per woman, is 1.6. It had to be 2.1 to maintain the population without immigration. So at this point I would say , have at it! Breed away! Make more kids!

Can you please explain what you mean here? Honestly do not understand what you are trying to say.

    Air Race Classic 2024

Is anyone going? Starts in Carbondale and ends in Loveland 18-21 June. I was thinking of flying to the start and then direct to the finish. Interested in anyone’s experience if they have been to a previous one—is it sitting around waiting for planes to arrive, or more exciting than that?

    Customer service rant

Bought a bottle of wine at Aldi two months ago, they have this kind of nonsensical policy to check all IDs, but ok, I play along (60+). My retired military ID is first on my stack so I hand that. The “kid” (30s?) looks at it and says, “Not sure if I should accept this but I suppose I will.” I...

    KSME Lake Cumberland KY

No I scaled the fence, not too many many scratches to worry about. As far as using the gate proximity sensor, apparently I do not have enough iron in my diet! Could not trigger it. I mean , I landed there and was trapped inside, no vehicle to trigger the sensor, just my flabby body.

    KSME Lake Cumberland KY

Posted this on Airnav, or rather attempted to, did not show up. Set down here about 7:30 pm, absolutely no way to get out of the field without scaling a 8 foot fence topped with barbed wire. This was a first, set down in roughly 500 strips and they all have some type of code—usually squawk vfr...

    Stuttgart Arkansas

Flying anywhere in Arkansas is going back in time ( State Motto:You are now leaving the 21st Century.) But check out these pics from KSGT, about three dozen hulls in various states of decomposition. Quite fun rummaging through them.Stopped for fuel, stayed for the wrecks.

We need a class action suit against the POA Pilots of America

You know how when you get a text, your phone suggests how you should respond? I always thought it would be fun, when my wife sends me a text, just to send the phone response and let that ride, see how it goes. Pretty soon the phones will have a conversation with each other, no input required.

    April solar eclipse

My family and I drove out to Eaton, OH which I selected using windy.com; it predicted 5% cloud cover. We has clear skies. This eclipse was very different from the one in 2017; that one looked like a hole in the universe, it was scary. This one occurred during solar max so the entire sun was...

US submarines leap forward in quietness

Agree. It is based on a true story that makes for compelling reading. Imagine walking into a reactor compartment to make weld repairs knowing you will receive a lethal dose of radiation that will kill you slowly and painfully. Brave men.

Query tracker is a good website to use to find agents and track your queries, I recommend it. There are some publishers that accept un-agented work but the majority do not. There are lots of resources out there on how to write a query. I had good luck, I sent out 59 queries and got two...

US submarines leap forward in quietness

For my money the movie that most accurately depicts the personal dynamics of the wardroom is “Crimson Tide”. The plot is nonsense of course but for a while I thought one of my old skippers had coached Hackman, I mean he nailed his megalomania. The scene where the Xo mentions to the CO to back...
