A&P didn’t have to replace anything. Went through the system starting at the battery and working forward, cleaning all connectors, contactors, etc. Without going into too much detail, once this was done plane started right up.

Same issue with the other battery.

Battery is only 5 months old. It holds a charge.

Starter was benched tested and is good. Going to clean the original cables coming off the battery and or replace them with copper cables. We aren’t getting full voltage from battery to starter as I understand it.

Its last “major” service is when the twist to start ignition and a Surefly magneto was installed around 3 months ago. Had oil change and a dynamic prop balance in the last few weeks. Plane had no issues starting through the winter at all.

I fly out of the Boston area. 100LL is $6.85 -7.25 in my local area. No signs of it going down. In fact we just went up a few weeks ago at my home field from $6.50 to $6.85 — which is still reasonable compared to the airports around me.

Thanks for all the information. The fear is condensation and the expansion differences between the different types of metals in the engine. I will most likely choose either the Reiff or the Tanis over a sump only system.

Thank you for your thorough explanation and your logic behind your choice. This gives me a lot to think about. The A&P at my airport recommended the EZ Heat and or the Reiff. The flight school planes that he maintains use the EZ Heat. Your point regarding cylinder head temps is well taken...

Thanks Xander, this is good information. The price between the (2) heaters is only $350.00. I’m wondering if the Reiff is overkill or is warming the cylinders necessary versus sump only.
