Toyota is right about EVs after all...

So, I spent some time calculating things. It's not exactly completely comparable due to differences in use and some EPA estimations. But it gives an overall picture. Gas price: $3.55/Gal. Price has come down since. Electricity price: $0.146/Kwh. Including delivery, taxes, fees and everything...

speed was climbing until that waypoint(red on picture) then off-course. But apparently still managed to slow down quite a bit. This is going to affect my commute.

Got a laugh in traffic this morning.

not only possible, but quite likely. I expect majority(although I doubt it's 75+%) of drivers to be above average.

oh, I 100% agree. Hence it is not a feasible option at the moment. This can(I'm in no way implying that it actually will) change sometime in the future

you should be right, but "economies of scale" is not how energy is now managed. At least not in my state. Political goals have a lot to do with costs than anything else. And I'm beginning to get tired of this constantly adjusting my cost. "Completely disconnected" is probably too much, but...

Toyota is right about EVs after all...

Personally, my ideal solution is to completely be disconnected from power grid. Solar, batteries, EVs, ground loop, propane for cooking and really cold days and backup generator, 1 gas car for long trips and backup. I can't do this now for various reasons. Maybe I will never be able to...

Toyota is right about EVs after all...

I'm totally with you on how easy it is to get most people to charge at best time. That's non issue really. I think @SoonerAviator point was that in past 10 years efficiency of devices went up significantly. That, as your graph showed, offset the increased number of devices(including EVs)...

You are correct. But also not giving complete data. Tesla 2023 revenue is up 19% over 2022. But its Q4 2023 is up only 3.5% over Q4 2022. This says to me that Q4 was a lot worse than rest of the year. These numbers were below expectations btw They had to lower their prices to keep selling cars...

Here’s an anecdote about Tesla. A friend just updated from model 3 to model Y late last year. Before they dropped price. Walked in and got one at discount. New. He charges that thing at work for free and often drives there to leave it on charger and comes home because- his words - it’s...

Toyota is right about EVs after all...

Look. I understand that every time EVs come up, it always comes down to an argument of virtues of Tesla. I have nothing against Tesla or EVs. For people that benefit from them, they are great. I realized just recently that I cannot be that person in my current situation. However, there are...

Years ago I rented a “fast “ geo metro. The 4cyl version. Auto. The damn thing almost had me t-boned by a bus. Didn’t have enough power to cross Main Street in 2nd gear. Took too long to figure it out and even then could just barely get out of the way

RIGHT! The rabbit hole!.. Now I need a different house :). I have a single car narrow garage and a 2 car driveway directly in front of it. Trash bins are typically in front of garage. Garage itself is used for MCs and all kinds of things(kids) but not cars. If van is the second car -- which...
