    Funny/Sad Mooney Tiktok

Oh, man, I hope that was a mechanical failure. I sure hope it wasn't due to reaching for flaps. In the early model Mooneys at least, the flaps are near the throttle/mixture/prop, and in most electric gear Mooneys the gear handle is on the other side and usually toward the top of the panel. It...

    Beech V35 Midair Breakup

That's also my purely speculative guess. Or perhaps turned the autopilot off, for some technical reason, to climb from 7k to 9k with the intent to re-engage it, but lost it (spatial disorientation) before that could happen.

    Beech V35 Midair Breakup

There's a local Facebook group where one of the BNA TRACON controllers mentioned that the pilot had been given a climb from 7k to 9k, but blew through the altitude. I think they gave him an altitude reminder, and that was the last they heard from him. This one is a head scratcher since he'd...

    Private Sale or Broker?

One of the more interesting presentations last year at OSH was done by the CBP. They asked if anyone had a 206. When the gentleman next to me raised his hand, the CBP officer said, "If you want a hassle free sale the cartels will buy it with cash, sight unseen." So, there's an option. :)

Taking a deeper dive into maneuvering speed

I'm too lazy to look it up the definitions, but I think Va is basically you get one full deflection of one control ONCE. It's not intended to do full rudder deflections right and left and expect to stay within design limits. That was what brought the down AA587...

IFR out of airports with no IAP

Ha! I thought that topic sounded familiar when I listened to that episode recently! Great topic!

    KSME Lake Cumberland KY

I had a similar issue at a small county airport in Arkansas. My parents were waiting on the other side of the fence, too. :D No answer from the airport manager nor county number listed, which didn't surprise me given it was a Saturday. Thankfully someone came by to work on their airplane, and...

Any experience in Higher power hangar door

Cool, thanks for the feedback. Definitely going to get a quote from them. I've seen very little negative about them. I like the concept of having the door put no vertical load on the hangar itself. I'm just not directly familiar with hydraulic doors like this, but theirs seems to address some of...

Any experience in Higher power hangar door

Necroposting on this thread but wondering if anyone else has any feedback on Higher Power? I'm just getting started on putting together a list of wants/must-haves for an airpark build, and I ran across several people that had recommendations for Higher Power on Facebook. I have skeptical...

Tennessee Senate passes bill outlawing Chemtrails

Define serious. Your point is valid, but having lived in TN for 16 years, in this instance you're giving this state legislature far too much credit.

Tennessee Senate passes bill outlawing Chemtrails

I love that they had to put "(Non-Functional)" in the title of that chemtrail panel.

Two dead after Mooney door pops open. St Augustine FL

Having experienced this first hand in an M20C, you just gotta ignore it and land. You're not going to get it closed while in flight, and I suppose because of the disturbance of airflow or suction, I saw the ASI and VSI bounce around a little. Wonder if he was trying to mess with it and just...

CFI says I can’t use electronic E6B on written — what??

That's what I had to do in 2021 for my instrument written. I also had to leave my phone and Apple watch in a box with the front desk while I took the test. Made sense, but I'd never thought about the watch also being used during a test. That would make it very obvious that you're cheating.

Single Engine down in Nashville - KJWN

So sad. RIP. I finished by private there a little over 10 years ago, and I remember that runway being hard to spot at night amongst the ground lights, prisons, and highways. Loading an approach at night there just to help find the runway even when VFR would be a good idea.

    Cell phone carriers

We've been on US Mobile (mvno) for over a year, and they allow you to choose the big carrier to use (T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T). We pay $33/mo for 2 lines and 12GB of data which is more data than we even need since we're both remote workers and on wifi all the time. They have better rates if...

    Strange Phone Call

Hmmm, these stories remind me of the CBP presentation at Oshkosh this year... "If anyone owns a Cessna 206 and wants to turn it into a pile of cash, no questions asked, just advertise it and wait for the cartels to call."

ForeFlight Now Requiring IOS 16 or Higher

Yeah, their email today references Apple's refurb store, which is where I've bought most of my iPads and MacBooks since they're basically good as new and come with a manufacturer warranty: https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/ipad/ipad-mini-6

Another IT guy lost to Aviation

Holy s***! I've worked as a software engineer for 20-mumble-mumble years, and this is just...gross, wrong, and I would've walked from that job, too. Or, more than likely, been so sarcastically disruptive then asked to leave.

    "November"

I flew a Wheeler Express from Nashville to Waukegan, IL several years back, and after the first two attempts to correct my type failed I gave up and just went with being called a Cessna until I landed a UGN. The tower exclaimed, "You're no Cessna!" I explained the issue, and they just laughed...

Another IT guy lost to Aviation

Hoo, boy, another fellow IT'er here, and ain't that the truth. On top of that, one issue we're having lately is getting quality candidates, even as contractors with relatively nice pay. There's a fair amount of entitlement that didn't seem to exist even 5-10 years ago along with a lack of what...
