B2OSH Bonanza Formation Training - Sacramento

All, I'm co-hosting the NorCal Beginner and Advanced formation clinics for the Bonanzas to Oshkosh group in Sacramento this year. While the purpose of the clinic is to prepare the attendees for a safe formation arrival into OSH, many of the other pilots drive something besides a Bonanza. If...

    Win 7 SSD Issues.

Fellow Fliers, I put a Vertex SSD drive in my Dell Laptop and installed Windows 7 on it. It however, now appears to be stuck booting (resuming Windows) from an image somewhere on the drive. Basically every couple of reboots, it seems to pull this old hibernate image from somewhere. The...

    Finally have my internet back!

And a blazing 3.8meg symmetrical connection. Not bad for living in the middle of the hills. Of course it does require this giant 802.11 grid antenna.

    X-Country Charts/Plates

Last time I went to OSH, I had to really dig to find the charts for a few regions of my trip. Many were sold out for the entire month at the local shop. Anyone purchase theirs online and have good luck?

    New License Plate: 180FOOD

It's been almost a month, but finally able to get around to posting a picture or two. Here is what happens when a 180 doesn't see your car as it taxis by... Prop missed the o2 bottle in the trunk by a few inches.

    "Blue Sky Recovery"?

While listening to Lemoore approach today flying home, a few navy pilots were doing practice approaches. The controller would vector them in then clear them for a "Blue Sky Recovery." Anyone know what this is?

    GNS-430W = Too cool

3 weeks of downtime ~$4k and one pretty nifty box. The processor inside is WAY faster. On the Nav position page, the coordinates zip by. Scrolling the moving map is significantly improved. The terrain page is pretty cool as well. The neatest part though, dial up the RNAV 16 approach into...

    G-Meters / Aircraft Limits

After flying in a plane with a g-meter today, it got me thinking as we hit a few bumps. When an aircraft is 'certified' to a negative number of Gs, (lets say -3 for this argument), is that -3 absolute Gs or relative. Since 1g is normal, would the meter read -2 or -3 if you reached its limit?

    A touch of... ice.

Finally got to experience a bit of ice this weekend. I was flying back on a short IFR flight from Marina KOAR to KRHV. About 5000', the OAT was just touching 0 degrees C. I was asked to climb to 6000' and the wings just started to look a bit different. The leading edges started to get darker in...
