Road Bump in Buying a Plane - No Place to Put It

My home airport built a new runway, leading to the airport being closed starting 2 weeks after I first flew my RV-14. I was able to keep the plane at a nearby airport for the ~6 months we were closed. It was about an hour drive each way. I made that drive regularly. As I sit here, 3 years later...

Any tips to better familiarize direction, degrees & headings?

I was going to say precisely this. But even if you don’t have a bug, you can look at the numbers and imagine the wind from that angle.

Empty cargo planes roam the skies

Our USPS office only does delivery outside city limits, unless you're a large development with a centralized mailbox. Inside city limits, they generally refuse to do mail delivery to street addresses. If you send a mail article to my company's street address, which hasn't changed in 40 years...

Empty cargo planes roam the skies

Meanwhile, the USPS has unmarked cars driving around to hijack their own trucks anytime the driver seems to be at risk of achieving a delivery commitment by mistake.

    Commercial Confusion

Copy and paste error. I'll correct my post momentarily. I almost gave you a DC-3 seaplane rating but that would almost make sense in the real world, so I rescinded it. :)

    Tandem Aerobatic Planes

I don’t think you can beat an RV-4 or RV-8 for a tandem plane for 90% travel and 10% aerobatics. Or even up to 80% aerobatics. I think you need to be pretty low on the travel side of the mission statement to prefer anything else. If you are only flying for fun, not long cross countries, then...

    Commercial Confusion

Well, you can't expect us not to check the airman database now! You've got a pretty interesting resume. Certificate: AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT Date of Issue: 12/16/1903 Ratings: AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT AIRPLANE SINGLE ENGINE SEA GLIDER LIGHTER THAN AIR BALLOON LIGHTER THAN AIR DIRIGIBLE HANG...

    Commercial Confusion

I hope your confusion continues and you never get your commercial pilot license. At least not until you correct your respect for the rules. Your flippant attitude toward the regulations will get people killed and I don’t think that they should pay you for the privilege.

    Commercial Confusion

It doesn’t say that. But it does say it must be solo. It’s very clear.

    Commercial Confusion

It sounds like your son was a living human at the time, making this not a solo flight. It doesn’t count toward that requirement. Did your CFI enjoy those trips enough to sign them off as dual?

    (Fly-in?) KSAA Shively Field Wyoming

It depends. Will you be out of town that day?

WTF, over? (Video of a bad landing and go around)

Maybe the throttle was stuck. It looks like the same power setting was used for the landing and the go-around.

    VOR Radials

Did four-course range pilots take flak for being Children of the Beep?

    VOR Radials

This thread predates all of that. The OP was in 1948. We had to clean the thread up a bit due to some untoward comments about President Truman feeling lonesome without a Vice President. Also, I was exaggerating. :)

End of the Rope: My Flight to Hollywood

I learned late yesterday that End of the Rope is now available for prepurchase on Apple TV. The actual streaming release is two weeks from today, on May 17. I don't know if or when the distributor will bring the movie to other streaming services. But there is no reason to wait for that. If you...
