That's somewhat of a gross dramatization.
Dry leases can be non-exclusive. That is, more than one lessee has access to the aircraft. As for maintenance, that's not specifically part of "operational control". Operational control deals with who flies the aircraft, where, and how. MX can be...
I had considered this as means of offsetting some of my fixed costs. Unfortunately, discovery/sightseeing flights now require letter of authorization from your local FSDO. Plus I'd have to do a 100-hr inspection, which adds considerably to my annual expenses. The last bit is insurance. My...
Thank you. This is exactly what I'm thinking. The airplane is own by an LLC, and the client would be leasing the airplane as nothing more than a piece of property. They would have full operational control. Hiring me as the pilot to fly their plan is no different than a company that owns a...
I'm curious to see what the regs say about a pilot and aircraft owner (myself), potentially leasing time in my aircraft (dry lease) to a non-pilot (i.e. a business owner who needs access to aircraft for regional business travel). That party would sign a dry-lease agreement to lease my aircraft...
Interesting, so if I were to fail a 2nd class, the AME might - at his sole discretion - issue a 3rd class, provided I meet the criteria. This would enable me to continue flying under 3rd while obtaining a SODA for 2nd class.
I will go and meet with an AME as a consultation to see if this is...
Ah, thank you. I didn't realize there was a medical forum here.
Bummer to hear that it would void any existing medicals. I just took delivery of a plane in order to build time, and I can't imagine having it sit and accrue costs while I get a SODA worked out for such a minor technicality.
I have light amblyopia in my right eye, and the distant vision in that eye is only correctable to about 20/40. Vision in my left eye is 20/20, and my combined vision with both eyes is 20/20. However, 2nd class medical requires vision in each eye individually to be correctable to 20/20 (distant...
I received a complimentary 1-yr subscription to Garmin Pilot ($109 value).

Happy to let it go for $45, as I have no need for it. DM me if interested.
I will be closely watching this thread. A friend just took delivery of a brand new Cirrus S22T and is looking to fly as much as he can. I’d be curious to see how many total hours and hours in type he would need in order to be granted single pilot part 135. Also curious about whether there are...
I would love to hear some suggestions on a good web-based platform for aircraft management and scheduling. I will be dry-leasing time in my single engine piston to 2-3 other pilots, and would love to integrate a seamless solution for scheduling, maintenance, and billing as well.
I've noticed...
I think that a person’s pay is a reflection of their value. My babysitter charges $35/hr. Most CFIs with $100k+ in flight training debt can barely make that much.
A person’s pay is a direct reflection of their value and experience.
Me, whenever I fly with my wife or kids. Not so much for traffic advisories as for being on frequency should anything go wrong. With a code, you’ve got a hit brother watching your back.
Descending from cruise in a SR-22 I routinely hit 200mph ground speed. At that rate, I cover 15 miles in just over four minutes. Not as far as you’d think. Although don’t get me wrong, I do slow down to 100kts on the pattern entry.
