    Low-cost, portable CO detector?

That’s what I have - needs to be calibrated periodically for $50 - plus $20 if they need to replace a chip (I think I was a chip)

    Anybody have gps trouble today?

Yes - we ran the ILS concurrently with the RNAV LPV. ILS glide slope was fine. RNAV had no vertical guidance. Used my friends Avidyne equipped Arrow, then tested it again with my Garmin equipped Archer. No vertical guidance for GPS on either, as well as another plane doing approaches in the...

    Anybody have gps trouble today?

Vertical guidance for RNAV approaches were unavailable this afternoon at PYM, EWB and TAN. We thought it might be equipment, but other planes in the area reported the same problem. Solar storm is to blame from what i am hearing. Good to have that old fashioned ILS for backup!

New Pilot Looking for a Headset

I have the $350 DC 13. Very comfortable for my head and ears. You can’t beet DC customer service. I mangled one of my jacks, and they fixed and upgraded it - no charge. This was not warranty, just stupidity on my part. Now, to be clear - I drove to the factory (50 minutes from home) and dealt...

How does a GTN and GNS combination work?

I have 750xi and 430w with 2 gi 275’s, s-tec 20. Crossfill works from 750 to 430w, not 430w to 750. Not an issue for me - just use the 430 for NAV/com 2. Might just be a setting in the 430. Both radios show on the 275. I also have a Garmin 106 for the 430 as a backup. Can’t do GPS approaches...

How long did the commercial maneuvers take to master?

commercial maneuvers are more about understanding performance and using ground references. No doubt that they make you a better and more precise pilot.

Flying to towered airports with medical restriction of “not valid for flying by color signal control”?

I failed the Ishihara (color dots), the “black box” (at the FISDO) and one other test at the FISDO - I forget what it consisted of. I passed the light gun signals - the lamest of all tests, IMO. I had the night and signal light restrictions on my certificate for about 10 years until I passed the...

Mooney Acclaim Still Has a Single Door?

Even Meridians have only one door - in the club seating section.

    I’m calling the peak

I don’t know how prices will come down - the supply of affordable planes keeps getting smaller and the cost of new planes is prohibitive for most of us.

    Color blind or not?

I have trouble with all red, green, yellow, amber lights. On the road, I need to be close to tell the difference. Blinking yellow and blinking red are tough until I get close. Also, I have good days and bad days - doesn’t make sense to me. I stay away from night flight to uncontrolled airports...

    Marker beacon not working

No need for marker beacons. I had the PMA8000G installed a year ago, and mistakenly ordered the one with marker beacons. Still trying to find an approach that uses them around here (BOS). I found one up in NH, but notam said it was inop. The three colored lights make my panel look more complex...

Garmin G5 Calibration Pitch Shows Nose High Level Flight

Your AI should not read level in flight. There is always some pitch up, unless you’re descending. You are only fooling yourself when you set the AI to “level flight attitude”. Also - leveling screws, etc at for maintenance - weighing the aircraft etc.
