    172/Cherokee gotchas

I really like my club's Mooney - but, it's not the easiest thing to get into and out of. I wouldn't recommend it in this case. A Cessna Cardinal is probably a better choice - might need some kind of a step stool, but there's a lot of room in the cabin, and nice big doors.

    Low-cost, portable CO detector?

Anyone have experience with this? (Just noticed this in an ad on Barnstormers) https://allavionics.com/product/my-co-usb-carbon-monoxide-detector/ Looks like it could be convenient when flying rental or club aircraft (that don't have anything better than the 'card with the dot')

    Ouch!!!!!

Yeah, I've done a couple like that (but not as much smoke from the tires). Hopefully not very often any more (gusty crosswind landings excepted)

Cessna Cardinal C177B Pilots and Owners - Training and Flt Characteristics.

Have some hours in the club 177B. Not a lot to what's already been said. The life-and-death AD is on the carry-through spar (fail that, airplane is salvage). Really forces the pilot to use trim - the pitch forces are heavier than a 172. Best landings I ever made were with a 220+ lb. guy in the...

    April solar eclipse

Drove to Muncie Reese 7I2. Only a small group there. Amazing sight, well worth the 4 hour drive. The drive back to Michigan (6+ hours) was not so great. Would have flown there, but all the club airplanes were booked. Psalm 148:3 "Praise ye him, sun and moon: Praise ye him, all ye stars of light."

    Breeze Airlines?

I assume the Lansing airport is excited to get some business - it's been almost a ghost-town the times I landed there.

    Fuel Cap...

I always dip the tanks to measure fuel levels. One time, I left the fuel gage tube sitting on the top of the cowl (of a 172), and proceeded to taxi, runup, and take off. I heard it go, aborted the takeoff (if I remember correctly) and did a fast trip on foot back down the runway. Found it, a bit...

    Funky Preflight

How do you calibrate a finger for the number of gallons in the tank? The airplanes I trained in had nearly useless fuel gages - had to 'dip' the tanks. And - great idea? throwing leaded fuel samples on the ground - ? (although, I've flown out of an airport where that was the practice)

I want to go to OSH 2024... BUT

If you can camp with no hookups, this could be an option. On your own for travel to the show, probably https://appleton.craigslist.org/avo/d/oshkosh-eaa-rv-parking/7716774700.html

    What's Flying Like in Retirement?

Since my retirement funds are not all that large, I'm thinking that (along with flying club airplanes) flying for the local CAP might be a low-cost way to stay in the air in retirement, health permitting (D.V. another 3 years away) I realize there's hoops to jump through with the CAP, but "ya...

FAA Tells Pilots To Go Analogue As GNSS ‘Spoofing’ Incidents Increase

I think there's some fundamental technical differences: Loran had precision clock time info in what was transmitted (kinda sorta like what the GPS satellites do now) - but FM broadcast transmitters have nothing like that in what they put out. Without that timing info in the signals, using FM...

S.2675 - Backcountry Aviation Protection Act

". . . a qualified instrument approach without regard to the minimum altitudes . . . ." - Huh? As a wanna-be instrument pilot, that sounds like a death wish. Go below minimums on an approach??
