If you own a truck and live in the rust belt.

This tool I made is a great way to load a schutz gun with Fluid Film, for what it's worth. It agitates the product and reduces its viscosity while it fills the bottle. I put some details in the video description; hope this helps somebody.

If you own a truck and live in the rust belt.

I guess I shouldn't show you any of my other automotive projects, then. Didn't have to drill any additional holes in it, plenty of vent and drain holes present in the original design. I did, however, opt to plate both sides of the open C-channel section with 3/16 steel prior to...

If you own a truck and live in the rust belt.

Rust is the bane of my existence. I started hot-dip galvanizing everything I could, and then encasing it in a sarcophagus of Fluid Film upon reassembly - I buy it by the bucket and apply it with a schutz gun; the aerosol can is a toy. 3M Cavity Wax is pretty good, too, and should be applied...

    Jacobs-powered pickup

That's the one. Way cooler than the C10 linked above. https://www.motortrend.com/news/airplane-engine-1939-plymouth-pickup-radically-radial/

    The death of an insitution

It's sad to witness the decline of the organization after working so hard to earn Eagle.

Cesna 172 down northern MN. Two survive

It's incredible that he found a paved surface in that area under those circumstances.

The missing light - and now you know the rest of the story

Rather than trying to claw back all content from the web, it's probably easier to pause for a moment before uploading a video and think, "Does this paint me in a poor light?" Of course, if you're the poster boy for ****-poor ADM and hazardous attitudes, it might be tough to get to that level of...

@N3318Q Gotta protect your valuable "intellectual" property huh, jabroni?

Gold Seal IFR course- anything else needed?

I did the IGI test using the same Sheppard prep as the IRA test, since it's pretty much exactly the same question bank. That allowed me to use the Ground Instructor credentials to gain access to the Sporty's CFI portal and view their Instrument ground school free of charge, which is about all...

Checkride / oral Prep courses- which one?

Here's a playlist I made of mock checkride oral interviews. I would put these in my earbuds when I was doing mindless physical labor in the weeks leading up to my private checkride, and it made the oral portion into a complete non-event.

Gold Seal IFR course- anything else needed?

I can't speak to Gold Seal, but I can say I got a much deeper working knowledge of the IFR system and procedures from free YouTube content than I did from Sporty's ground school. A test endorsement is easy to come by; if you're a motivated learner, don't feel obligated to buy a ground school...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Yeah, here's the ACS: https://www.faa.gov/sites/faa.gov/files/training_testing/testing/acs/private_airplane_acs_change_1.pdf You won't spend a lot of time recovering from unusual attitudes during Instrument training, it's mostly about learning to fly procedures. Unless you have a propensity...

Cessna down after stalling on take off

I saw the reel in question last week, maybe the week before. I don't recall whether they were in South America or Europe, but they were somewhere outside the US, so it might be tricky to find a report on the incident. They used almost the entire runway to become airborne, and then staggered...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

I am pleased to report the hangar door has been repaired. And it was only a smoked V-belt.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

It will click one day. I was a bundle of nerves until 100+ landings, and then it became more about feel and flowing with the plane than about consciously analyzing and responding.

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

Right. I'm trying to tread the fine line between using it like the tool it is and protecting it. 1st generation Tacomas are outright extinct in this part of the country.

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

The truck or the airplane? The Tacoma was a clean southern truck with mechanical issues; I took it all the way apart, hot-dip galvanized the frame, and reassembled it with a good drivetrain from the rusty Tacoma that preceded it as our plow truck. (All that dark stuff around the...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

Today's drama exemplifies the thread title: Finally found a hangar, signed the lease and paid for my first year on Monday. Blew the wings off my Fisher yesterday and began the migration from shop to airport: figured I'd tow the fuselage first and then return in a box truck with all the wings...
