Midwest POA June Lunch? Breakfast? Where? Who knows. June 22, 2024

Where shall we go? We haven't been to MDH, but that's a long way for the northerners. Charlies at 1c5 had a great turnout last time. I don't think we've done the Jet Room at MSN either.

No, but we should. The 22nd is the only Saturday I have free this month, if we want to stick to Saturdays.

    IMC definition for approach logging

And that's the crux of the matter, isn't it? Pretty much all logging is on the honor system. I mean if an investigator really wanted to, I suppose weather records probably exist to the extent of "was it cloudy that day?", but in the end it's on the pilot to log what he/she feels is right, and...

    Finding approaches based on type

Yeah, as I mentioned above, I'm learning that I've been really spoiled here at CMI. Our ATC is, for the most part, awesome, hangars are relatively cheap, and the shop on the field is great. The GA trifecta.

    Piper automatic gear extend

Wasn't there also a couple where the pilot was taking off from a short field, and the gear dropped, putting him into the trees? I swear I read that story somewhere. I can think of a lot of scenarios where that system could kill you, and none where it could save your life.

Did the bombardier get to log PIC when he had control of the plane via the bombsight?

    Finding approaches based on type

It helps that our controllers are used to the flight school wanting to do all kinds of practice approaches, so they have lots of practice sequencing piston airplanes around to get everyone what they want. I think there's 4 121 flights per day and single digit biz-jet traffic. I'm spoiled...

    Piper automatic gear extend

The auto-extend was disabled in my plane before I got it, but the diaphragm is still under the floor, and it connects to the same valve as the emergency gear drop lever. Sometimes it's referred to as the "Hoof Valve", after the manufacturer. On my second flight in my plane we couldn't get a...

    Finding approaches based on type

I don't understand the downside of talking to approach. @Initial Fix are you just wanting to concentrate on the panel without dealing with the radio? At my sleepy class C they'll pretty much give you anything you ask, including opposite direction unless there's traffic in the pattern. Full...

Pireps on the new Lightspeed Delta?

Weird. Mine doesn't do that. If anything I would say it's slightly better then my Zulus.

    IMC definition for approach logging

I go by whether I can proceed visually to the the runway from the FAF. I've flown a number of approaches where I'm in the clear at the faf, but there's clouds between there and the runway. I've also flown a couple that were technically vmc, but the visibility was 3-4 miles so you couldn't see...

Amazing save in a Grumman AA-1C

Yeah. Not my funnest day in GA, but the airplane is still usable, and the only casualty was my wallet. It takes about 200 hours for the oil to finish seeping out of every seam. Probably longer than you'd think. Mine ran 10 minutes with no oil pressure, and had no internal damage. Agreed...
