    California and Lead

I'm not convinced lead in avgas is a real problem. Until I'm convinced of that, I'm in no hurry to pay more for fuel or to put the entire system through the wringer of swapping to an unleaded fuel...

How much space to build a plane (rv14)

i built most of the components of my RV-6 in half of a 2 car garage. Stored them in the house when complete. If your garage has HVAC, I'd build there and store components in the shed when they are finished. I might use the shed to do fiberglass work and paint, but the garage would be ideal for...

    #OSH23 Jambalaya/Chili Party Tuesday

Grant, you and Leslie provided outstanding food and an excellent gathering for years. I hope your sabbatical doesn't last long, but if it does, know that your efforts were greatly appreciated by a lot of people. Thank you.

    E/AB final weight?

Prototypes are usually a few percentage points lighter than lightly equipped finished kits. Why? Well, in Van's case, they really put the paint on thin and (at least in the old days) sent forth aircraft equipped to a "light VFR" standard. As an example, the prototype RV-6 weighed 970 pounds...

    Military Helo Rotorwash

Your linked videos do not confirm your assertion. In the first video, I can't tell if there is turbulence. In the second and third, the airplanes cross the helicopter's path 10-15 seconds after the helo passes. Note that my suggestion was "30 seconds before you turn final", meaning any...

    Military Helo Rotorwash

I think (but don't know) that you're being overly concerned. I don't think disturbed air from rotorwash is persistent. As long as the helicopter exits the runway area 30 seconds or so before you turn final, I can't imagine there would be a problem.

    The death of an insitution

My son is currently in Boy Scouts. Male and female troops and activities are separate. An implied question in the thread is why did the Boy Scouts add females? I suspect it was because of societal pressure and also to recapture numbers. As others in the thread have posted, the number of...

    Crawl Space Sump Pump

I installed one in a previous house. No PPE, and the pit was only 18" deep since the water intrusion was very localized (it wasn't water table or ground water related). Seemed to work fine for the 10 years I had the house. The crawl space was lighted and had 3-4' of headroom, so it wasn't a...

Road Bump in Buying a Plane - No Place to Put It

I have two t-hangars at VPC and a good relationship with the FBO manager. I promise, I got the "real" answer from him with my e-mail. The question I haven't asked is why there are at least a half dozed "used to be" tie-down spots that are unoccupied on the ramp, yet none are available. I...

Road Bump in Buying a Plane - No Place to Put It

To WDD...I emailed the FBO manager at VPC asking about tie down space. Like what you said, the answer was "don't have any available". I'm gonna follow up with the head of the airport authority when I see him next. The eye test says there are a half dozen tiedown spots that are going unused...

    New paint scheme - opinions

I have 20+ year old vinyl trim on my RV-6 that still looks like new. The aircraft is hangared when not in use.
