    Restoration cost - rough idea?

Thank you for sharing your expertise. I think I was looking at the wrong side when trying to inspect for door post cracks. Inspection needs to be done when the airframe reaches 4000 hrs I believe? I think a section of the floor has to be cut out to inspect that area and for the kit to be installed?

Amazing save in a Grumman AA-1C

If the crankshaft plug came out...wow. This is what one looks like, it is defiantly a one time use.

    Restoration cost - rough idea?

Take a look at those fuel hoses... Found a small wasp nest in the stall horn, worked much better after I removed it. And I didn't notice it at first until saw it in a picture I took. First time back in the fuselage I found all the drain holes blocked with original aluminum shavings. Light...

    Restoration cost - rough idea?

I removed many many wasp and mud dauber nests over a period of a few years meaning no one has been in there for years before I started flying it. I still don't think I have them all out yet. I am interested in those bolts. I think I might remove them for closer inspection next month during...

Training has stalled. Advice sought. What would you do in my position?

Why did the DPE cancel the checkride? I had to cancel my instrument checkride 2 maybe 3 times because of weather. It was up to me whether I canceled or not. The DPE commended me for the cancellations when I finally did take the checkride as she said it showed good judgement on my part. My CFII...

Student Pilot radio comms and Class C -- step-by-step in chronological order

This is what I did even though I learned at a class delta airport. I made up my own knee board paper in the order that I heard it on the radio. I learned a lot with that hand held radio.

    For paint over spray?

    Cleaning engine compartment

I use mineral spirits in a pressurized sprayer and lots of cardboard on the floor for oil. If you are talking paint overspray then I would use a rag only and be ****ed that the engine was not covered before paint

Etiquette for using a friends plane

I had a 172 offered to me to fly from a acquaintance one day when I saw him at a plumbing supply house. Another year went by and I saw him again and he offered again. So I went to his place and taxied it around his drag strip after giving it good look over. I was nervous because it sat a lot the...

    Paint

When I sprayed that contact cement I covered my windshield if it was inside, kept the plane out on the ramp most other times. I don't paint in my hangar, not allowed to since the walls are not sealed and the overspray would get on my neighbors aircrafts. I am lucky to have another shop with...

    Zero hours/sitting idle

We drag raced a all aluminum hemi on methanol. It only ran for 5-7 minutes warming up and checking for oil leaks. Then it ran another 5-7 minutes on the race track. It had no cooling system, the fuel kept it cool. It produced some much water that the oil was replaced after every run. It was...

    Garmin G5 reset issue

I had it happen to one of my G5 when I first got them in 2018. I was not messing with the power on or off when it happened. It was a Sat morning and I left a message at the avionics shop. Lo and behold the president called me back with in a half hour. By then I got restarted by holding the...

    Which Engine Oil Analysis?

Just as long as Blackstone keeps sending me warm and fuzzy reports on how great my engine is wearing I like em. As soon as they send me a bad one I am through with them! lol Just kidding.
