I moved from S FL to N GA, and now E TN, largely because of the roads and I love driving and riding on them. Creeping along on the Interstate in bumper-to-bumper traffic? Not so much. In cases like that, a competent autonomous system would be a godsend.

how much risk flying in windy conditions

I’ll assume you did the math. How about for a 60° crosswind? 45°? Or anywhere in between? The idea is just to reduce it somewhat. Every little bit helps

That runway was under construction when we were there, as you can see in the satellite photos.

how much risk flying in windy conditions

Anecdote: I landed once in my Sky Arrow at Moriarty, NM with a hellacious right crosswind to what was then a single runway. My ground track looked something like this: I mentioned my technique to a glider instructor there. He said in really strong winds they would land nearly perpendicular to...

    My tailwheel training impressions..

Three things I found helpful. 1) In general, on a “3-point” landing try to get the tailwheel to roll on slightly first. If you succeed, the mains will drop maybe 6”-12” and with the stick all the way back the plane is done flying. 2) On wheel landings with a stick, brace your forearm against...

I think he meant into the wind but at an angle into the wind… I see I just got ninja’d. But for example… You can start 30 seconds in. And watch the yaw string to see the effect. And the windsock as I taxi to the ramp.

Posted to Facebook yesterday: Earlier this week I finally got the offer of the free month of Full Self Driving. Played with it yesterday. There’s an expression: “The amazing thing about a singing dog is not that it sings well, it’s that it can sing at all!”. That’s my impression so far. On...

Certainly the case with a wheel landing on a tailwheel. Tail up - the rudder steers. Tail down - the tailwheel steers. In the no man’s land in between - there be dragons.

NO subscription is required to enjoy a very complete feature set in a Tesla, including Autopilot. A feature set that grows over time at zero cost via Over-the-Air software updates. I think your outrage in this case is misplaced.

It’s highly dependent not only on pilot skill, but the aircraft in question. Where pilots can get into trouble is knowing what they’re comfortable in a Cirrus or Bonanza, let’s say, and then flying a smaller plane and applying the same limits. For instance, 18G24 would have been a non issue in...

As an aside, earlier in the week I finally got the offer of the free week of Full Self Driving. Played with it yesterday. There was no “Buy” option in 2019. Just to put a refundable $100 down for a position, and no price was locked in. I don’t recall even having to specify which model I was wanting. When I was offered to option to complete my order back in March, I declined, for reasons stated upthread. Had one...

New iPad Nano Textured Glass in Cockpit?

I used to use a glare-reducing matte screen protector on a Mini that did much the same job, both cheaper and removable.

    How I got phished!

No doubt very sound advice. I guess I got to experience first hand the "con" in "confidence game". I had initiated the call to what I thought was Linksys, and was confident we were working together to solve a problem. I'm just glad I caught on when I did. As a very sad example of how far...
